So, you’ve decided that you want to start blogging – excellent decision! You understand that blogs build trust with your customers and increase traffic to your website, and now you’re ready to roll. But there’s only one problem: the dreaded blank page.
Don’t worry, we’ve all been there. Talking about blogging is a lot easier than getting words on the page and a lack of inspiration can be all it takes for your blogging bonanza to be binned for another cup of tea and every form of procrastination under the sun.
But fear not, I’ve come up with five ways to make sure you always have an idea for your next brilliant blog.
What do your current or potential customers want to know?
Every business will have a list of questions that potential customers always ask. In fact, you could probably rattle off four or five right now with very little thought. FAQs are a great starting point and the best way of coming up with the topics that will best help and inform your customers. If you’re still stuck, just ask! Your current customers might even have some burning questions that they just haven’t got around to asking yet.
Tell a story
Case studies are a great way of showing the impact your business has on people and your industry. Tell the story of why you do what you do, and engage readers with personal, inspirational and powerful stories.
Everyone loves a list
In a digital age where we only have a matter of seconds to attract a visitor’s attention online, sometimes it pays to keep it simple with a reader-friendly list blog. For example:
- Five ways to…
- Ten things to consider when…
- 50 free resources for…
- How not to…
- Seven reasons why…
Be the expert
One of the main benefits of blogging is having a platform to share your opinions of sector-specific subjects. Keep up-to-date with industry trends and latest news to make sure you can offer your thoughts and perspective on the hot topic everyone is talking about. Ideally, you want to become your customers’ source for clear explanations and personal insights into current, confusing or exciting topics.
Make it personal
Don’t be afraid to share your personal experiences and let your personality shine through. Your customers want to know the people behind the brand and will always be drawn to a human interest story. With honesty comes trust, and that’s what blogging is all about!
