When it comes to blogging for your business, publishing regularly can be the biggest stumbling block for many people. It’s great to have a list of ideas and plans for each blog in your mind, but struggling to find time to actually sit down, write, image source, publish and share is often the reason for blogging tumbling to the bottom of to-do lists.
Consistency is key for improving your page rankings on search engines, and your customers will expect (and want!) regular content. So, how do we make it happen?
Accountability
As a starting point, you have to remind yourself why you want to blog, why it’s important for your organisation and how it can help your company grow. But not only that, you have to make yourself accountable. Commit to weekly or monthly publishing targets and tell people! As soon as you set expectations, it becomes much easier to stick to your targets.
Schedule time
Consistency is all about planning. Marketing your organisation should be part of your weekly schedule and this is where your time for blogging should slot in. Ideally, you would be writing every day, even if it’s only 100 words or rough notes, but this is easier said than done. Instead, schedule time slots in your diary and set reminders in your phone – find the best system that works for you.
Look ahead
If you know you have a quieter spell approaching, use it wisely. Dig out your list of ideas and commit to writing three or four blogs to ensure you have a stockpile ready to go when life becomes a bit more hectic. It can also be a good idea to plan blogs into a series or a block, which helps when aiming for structured targets.
Re-purpose
Even if you’ve been blogging inconsistently for a while, chances are you’ll still have a pretty good collection of blogs on your website. Just because you’ve shared them once on social media doesn’t mean you can’t update them and republish as new content. The important thing to remember is to rewrite the content slightly, give the blogs a new title or angle, or reformat the content into a different style of blog.
Outsource
If time is a constant struggle and blogging consistently ends up at the bottom of the pile, maybe it’s time to delegate or outsource. As a manager or business owner, it’s easy to feel pressure to take on every task personally but consider delegating this task to a member of your team or start a conversation with external content writers and blog management services.
